Remodel of Spanish style home in Pasadena CA

My wife and I have the highest regard for Sanello Construction, and especially for the owners, Rocco & Mary Jo Sanello. We first used the company about twenty years ago, and were amazed at the ease of the company's design work, cost explanation, construction and completion of the project. We had bought an older house in Pasadena, built in 1903, and soon embarked on a number of projects.

The first few contractors with whom we worked did not distinguish themselves. When we decided to convert a second floor sunroom into a new master bath, we had the good fortune to be referred to Sanello Construction. Since that time, we have asked the company to do a number of jobs, including a new kitchen and massive renovation of the front of the house. Each project was a pleasure, and the results have always been outstanding. Rocco is a craftsman of the first order and is a general contractor who demands the best from his subs. He wants everything to be right. When things aren't right, he corrects them. He seldom needed us to point out problems; he found them himself and corrected them. Even well after a job had been completed, Rocco would return if a legitimate problem emerged and correct it on his own time and dollar.

Rocco Sanello and Sanello Construction were prime contractors on a re-modeling and landscaping project for our home on Oak Grove Avenue in San Marino between 2005 and 2007. The remodeling resulted in an 8,000 square foot house, and the landscaping created an oriental garden on grounds of about 1.2 acres. We are pleased with the results, and have no hesitation in recommending Sanello Construction.

The home has a modern architecture, originally designed by Thornton Ladd as a one-story home, which was updated and expanded to two-stories by David Serrurier for this project. Structurally, it was a challenge to build due to the large percentage of glass walls, glass corners, and flying roofs. Aesthetically, every edge had to be razor straight due to the visual openness and lack of moldings.

The landscaping included over 160 tons of decorative boulders and large rocks, various outdoor and indoor water features, and thousands of plants including mature trees. Placement and stabilization of large boulders and other garden features required engineering as well as aesthetic competence.

Two years after move in, we are entirely satisfied with the quality of our home and garden, and have had no issues beyond routine maintenance. The infrastructure, such as drainage, electrical, and foundation work, has stood up well. We have also felt that we were charged fairly throughout a mixed fixed-price and cost-plus project, and that our home was built with the attention to details, quality of materials and workmanship that we had expected.

Rocco Sanello built my residence approximately 20 years ago. It was a new home construction from the ground up. He did a truly outstanding job. He was there at the construction site on a daily basis supervising all the subcontractors himself. He made sure that everything was done right, and if it was not, he would make sure that they did it over again.

He was extremely reliable always returning my calls on the same day. He was very organized keeping the project going at a steady pace and keeping to the schedule of work that he had originally proposed.
